If you’re a white guy with a thing for black women, than you are in luck. A recent story by the Washington Post revealed that marriages between black women and white men are on the rise. According to a 2008 population survey, interracial marriages have doubled over the past decade.
So why is this becoming more commonplace? According to the story, black women are in “market failure.” Single black women with college degrees outnumber single black men with college degrees almost 3 to 1 in major urban areas. These women are having trouble meeting a black man who meets their standards. Therefore, they are giving up on tradition and looking outside their race for a mate.
This is good news for white men such as myself, who have always fantasized about a black woman. However with my recent engagement, it shall remain a fantasy…and I’m ok with that. I’m happily engaged. Living in New York— the melting pot of the world—I really have no excuse for not making it happen while I had the chance. But it’s not too late for you! My fellow Anglo-Saxons, now is the time to act! Beautiful black women are out there and they are looking for you!
The story also goes on to discuss a book titled “Don’t Bring Home a White Boy: And Other Notions That Keep Black Women from Dating Out.” (side note: I never much cared for the term “White Boy.” I feel it has negative connotations. I really wish the term didn’t get thrown around so easily but I digress…)
In this book, author Karyn Langhorne Folan, reveals her research and cites a number of reasons why black women are hesitant to date white men. The top reason: “After slavery I would never want to date a white man.” SERIOUSLY? The Civil War ended a while back and no one alive right now experienced it. Slavery was an awful part of American history but don’t blame white people living in the 21st century for that. That can’t really be the number one reason.
Also on the list at #5 is, “White men don’t find black women attractive unless they look like Beyonce.” Hmm…That seems like a pretty specific response. That many black women specifically mentioned Beyonce? That’s remarkable!
Meanwhile #9 is simply… we’d be too different. That seems like a more viable excuse to me. Why is that #9?
Whatever the concerns are, some black women are ready to do whatever it takes to find a man, even if it means dating a white boy. So men, if you love black women—even if they don’t look like Beyonce—then get out there! Go find yourself an ebony queen! Do it for me!
