The Slow-Pitch Softball Ten Commandments

Spring is in the air! If there’s one thing Spring is synonymous with, it’s baseball.  However, most men my age have long since given up on their boyhood dreams of playing professional baseball.  Lack of athletic ability, combined with unwillingness to work hard has put an end to that dream.  Instead, men (me included) have decided to live out their dying boyhood fantasies by playing slow-pitch softball.

As someone who has been playing for about seven years now, I have learned a lot and I am ready to pass on my knowledge to you.  With leagues beginning to start up, it’s important that all men follow these important rules.  These are 10 commandments that all men who play softball must abide by.  (more…)

Vote for Name of the Year!

Name of the Year is an annual tournament that picks the “best” name in the world each year. All the names in the tournament are believed to be real. The contest runs in conjunction with the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament and uses a similar bracket to determine the winner. Voting is now underway here. The #1 seeds are Spontaneous Gordon, Nohjay Nimpson, God’s Power Offob, and Just-In Love Smith. These are all quality contenders but personally I’m making a bold prediction and saying that the #15 seed Pamela Balls Organista will take the title! (With the name of my blog, it only makes sense to pull for the competitor who is named Balls)

Trying to Explain LOST

Have you tried explaining an episode of LOST to someone who hasn’t seen the show before? It’s probably easier to explain the theory of relativity to a six-year old. Here’s a little skit I did on how difficult this task is.

Tuesday, 8:58 pm, my apartment

(Doorbell Rings)

Friend: Hey John! What’s up buddy? I thought I’d stop by and see what you were up to.
Me: Just about to watch Lost actually…You watch it?
Friend: Nah. I’ve never seen it before. I heard it was good though. I’ll check it out.
Me: Ok. Well just shut the fuck up and don’t ask any questions. I’ll explain it to you during the commercials.
Friend: Ok. No problem.

24 Mockery: Season 8 Improves, but Still Pretty Crappy

Last night’s episode of 24 was not that bad for a change.  That doesn’t mean DV and I aren’t going to make fun of it. Here’s our take on the latest 24 twist…

DV (12:51:06 PM): Did you see 24?
John S (12:53:10 PM): yes I did
John S (12:53:23 PM): it looked promising until the last 10 seconds
DV (12:53:45 PM): I have to admit there were times where it was interesting and fun but for the most part I kept shaking my head.
DV (12:54:05 PM): and the last 10 seconds actually made me feel better
John S (12:54:12 PM): really?
DV (12:54:16 PM): here is why (more…)

What’s the Worst Sports Loss of Your Life?

There is a close friend of mine, whose brother is an alumnus of the University of Maryland. After Maryland lost on a buzzer-beater to Michigan State in the Second Round of the 2010 NCAA tournament, he posted on Facebook that it was the worst sports loss of his life.

That got me thinking. What is the worst sports loss of my life? As a HUGE Yankees fan, I haven’t had too much to complain about over the years. However, there have still been a few heartbreaking losses mixed in with all those titles.

The 2004 loss to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS is certainly an easy choice for most Yankees fans. Blowing a 3-0 deficit to the hated Red Sox was certainly difficult to swallow.

Yet after thinking about it, there were two other games in my lifetime that hurt just a little bit more… (more…)

Funny Phone Break-ups

iDUMP4u.com is a web site that will break up with your significant other for a small fee (This way you won’t have to tell her about all the payday loans you took out in her name). They also record every conversation and post them on youtube!  This has made for some rather uncomfortable, but entertaining moments.  Muffslap.com has a post titled the top 12 iDUMP4u breakups. My personal favorite is the dude who got dumped because he played too much Farmville.  Be sure to check it  out. (more…)

24 Mockery: Season 8 Takes a Familiar Twist

24 Mockery is back after a two-week layoff. I realize not that many people read these but I don’t care. This previous episode of 24 was so ridiculous that I just had to share the discussion I had with DV.

Before we delve into this week’s edition, I thought I’d share a glossary of terms. To clear up any confusion when reading this, consult the glossary of nicknames. Some of these appear in this week’s edition, while others have shown up in previous versions. (more…)

“White Boys” in High Demand

If you’re a white guy with a thing for black women, than you are in luck.  A recent story by the Washington Post revealed that marriages between black women and white men are on the rise.  According to a 2008 population survey, interracial marriages have doubled over the past decade.

So why is this becoming more commonplace? According to the story, black women are in “market failure.” Single black women with college degrees outnumber single black men with college degrees almost 3 to 1 in major urban areas.  These women are having trouble meeting a black man who meets their standards.  Therefore, they are giving up on tradition and looking outside their race for a mate.
